Grand Strand Juniors

New 2020 Season Tryout Registration

Welcome to the 2020 Season Tryout Registration!

Thank you for registering for Grand Strand Juniors Volleyball Club. We look forward to having you become a part of GSJ. Please look through our website and reach out with any questions you may have. A brief description of our different levels of travel team is below.

Our Coast United and National programs will be based in Conway at our facility. CU players will go to Charleston twice a month. Our Regional teams will be based primarily out of Myrtle Beach Sports Center but we hope to have 1-2 in Conway and 2-3 in Florence.

Payments can be made online or select "pay offline" to pay onsite at the tryout.

Levels of Volleyball at Grand Strand Juniors

  • Coast United - CU is new program for those top athletes who are committed to play at the highest level and have the athletic and skill talent to do so. GSJ players will be combined with those from Charleston to form travel teams and compete in tournaments.
  • National – Will be our next highest program for athletes who do not make the CU teams or who want less travel and need more development.  National team is for the players who consider volleyball their favorite sport and takes priority over other sports that they might play.
  • All GSJ National Teams will practice out of the GSJ Facility in Conway.
  • By bringing all our National teams to Conway we are able to train at a dedicated volleyball facility and unite the most talented players from a larger geographic region. This has allowed GSJ to compete against some of the top teams in the Country.
  •  With multiple National teams at one location those teams are able to train in the same system and compete against each other regularly.
  • Regional – Developing and moderately experienced players who wish to stay close to home or do not have the skill and experience to play on a National or Power team.
  • Development League - (An upgrade from our Academy program) GSJ will create a new program for new players and those needing more development before playing travel ball. The D-League will keep players local and allow them more time to develop skills but also allow for team play. Teams will have 4 play dates including 1 tournament.
  • Season will start in December and end at the end of March.

Frequently asked tryout questions

Q. Are teams pre-selected?
A. No, we start each season with an open mind. It is true that a core group of players stay on the same level of team together, but that is based on the skill of the players. Every season we have kids who change teams (up or down) from the previous season.

Q. I am not sure what team level I should choose?
A. Select the highest level team that you want to be considered for. GSJ staff will make the final determination on the team that is best for you.

Q. If I tryout for Coast United and don't make it, what happens?
A. If you do not make a Coast United team you will automatically be considered for a Grand Strand team. It is recommended that you attend the Coast United and GSJ tryouts for your age.

Q. I have an injury or prior commitment and cannot make the tryout, can I still play on a team?
A. Yes. If we know who you are and have an idea of your skills we can place you on a team. If we do not know you we can arrange an individual tryout.

Q. Do you make cuts?
A. We try and place everyone on a team that consist of players of similar age and skill. In some cases we do not have the right numbers and some players might be cut.

Q. How many players do you have on a team?
A. We typically have 9-11 players and a maximum of 12 on a team.

Q. What do I bring to tryouts?
A. Dress like you would for practice. Be sure you have registered and if you have not paid online bring the $25 one time tryout fee.
